An electronic ballast for a fluorescent lamp (5) comprising an oscillation circuit (1) oscillating at a frequency of 40 to 60 KHz and a gate drive circuit (2) providing drive signals (I3,I4) to each of the gates of a low side MOSFET (3) and a high side MOSFET (4), in which the gate drive signal for the low side MOSFET (3) and an oscillating signal from the oscillation circuit (1) are used to control a step-up circuit (CH1) through a switch means (6) for generating an increased, regulated DC-voltage to said MOSFETs (3,4).
