PURPOSE:To reduce the abrasion of a stator and balls by suppressing the revolution of the balls brought into contact with a rotating body. CONSTITUTION:A large number of balls 10 supported at regular intervals by a retainer 9 are placed on a stator 8, and other balls 12 supported at regular intervals by a retainer 11 are put on the balls 10. Mutually adjacent balls in these balls 10, 12 are brought into contact with one another at two points, and a body of revolution 13 is placed on the balls 12, thus constituting an ultrasonic drive 9. Consequently, when elliptical vibrations or progressive waves are generated on the end face of the stator 8, the balls 10 are turned in the direction of the arrow A while being moved in the direction of the arrow B on the end face of the stator 8. Since the balls 12 are rotated in the direction of the arrow C of the opposite direction and the balls 12 are turned in the opposite direction on contact surfaces with the rotating body 13, the revolution of the balls 12 is inhibited, and the rotating body 13 is shifted together with the balls 12. Accordingly, the abrasion loss of the balls 10 and the stator 8 is also reduced, thus lengthening the lifetime. |
