[Class 53.] The electrolyte of a dry cell having a manganese dioxide depolarizer consists of a gelatinous mass formed by the action of the hydroxides of the alkali metals on an aqueous solution of salts of the alkaline-earth metals or of magnesium, for example magnesium chloride. A small quantity of a mercury salt of an organic acid such as hydrocyanic acid may be added. Additional thickening agents may be used such as meal having a large content of gluten, and a small amount of aluminium oxide. |
