Stopping, starting &c.- A web 1 to be stamped at intervals by a tool 11 carried on a roller 4 is fed over a rotating roller 2. The roller 4 is normally held in the position shown, clear of the web, by a bar 8 engaging a pin 9 on the roller. An impulse to energize an electromagnet 7 and release the pin 9 is produced (a) by an attachment guided by organs connected with the web drive, for stamping the web at certain intervals; or (b) by a photo-cell attachment detecting a pattern on the web, for stamping in relation to the pattern; or (c) by a predetermined programming device such as punched or magnetic tape.</p> |
