The invention pertains to a device for detecting the emptying of a container (1) used in the production of plastics, the contents of the container being held under pressure. A microphone (4) registers gas bubbles that have entered any residue present in the container as they escape from the residue with a popping sound within a period determined by a timing element (5) and feeds the registered "pops" to a counter (6) which emits a signal if one or more consecutive pops are detected within the period determined by the timing element.
