A composite machine tool wherein a punching center and a cutting work position coincide with each other in order not to restrict a moving space of a workpiece at the time of cutting work as well as at the time of punching work. The tool is provided with a movable plasma torch (16) that is provided on that part of a main body located close to the work position, retracted from the work position at the time of the punching work and advanced to the work position at the time of the cutting work of a workpiece (5). Further, the composite machine tool is provided with protecting devices (18, 19) for protecting a lower turret (3) and other members adjacent thereto from dross and heat at the time of the cutting work by the plasma torch.
