Protection device for the rail of a sliding door of a motor vehicle

The sliding door rail (5) is set in a horizontal recess (6) in the side of the vehicle and interacts with rollers connected to the door (2) by a coupling mechanism (7). The recess is covered by a hinged vertical shutter (10) operated by a peg (15) on the door coupling mechanism so that it lifts into a horizontal position as the door is opened and closes again as the door is closed. The shutter turns about at least one hinge pin (11) carried by a lug fixed to the vehicle body inside the recess, being returned to its vertical position by a spring on the hinge pin. The inside of the recess has stops (14) which hold the shutter vertically and flush with the vehicle body when closed.
