摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce operation quantity and to shorten necessary operation time by obtaining the contrast of a video concerning the output of respective video signals from plural line image sensors and calculating a focusing distance concerning the image sensor outputting the high-contrast video signal. SOLUTION: Correlative operation concerning a direction where total contrast quantity becomes large is preferentially performed so as to drive a lens; and the other correlative operation for detecting focusing is not performed until the direction shows low contrast because of influence that a subject is a long/ short distance competiting subject, and the lens is driven based on the result. A microcomputer generates difference data in a direction (x) first and obtains the sum of the adjacent difference of the difference data so as to calculate the total contrast value Cx in the direction (x). successively, the microcomputer calculates the total contrast value Cy in a direction (y) in the same manner. After calculating the total contrast values Cx and Cy in both directions (x) and (y), both values are compared, and the correlative operation concerning a direction Z where the total contrast value is large is preferentially performed.
