摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the brightness of a picture writing light and to miniaturize an optical system in a picture display device for writing picture information on the input surface of a spatial modulation element by using ferroelectric liquid crystal and magnifying and projecting the picture displayed on the output surface of the spatial modulation element. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a spatial modulation element 3, a semiconductor laser 10 capable of directly modulating light quantity to the frequency required for a video signal based on electric quantity, a polygon mirror 12 for deflecting the output light beam from the semiconductor laser 10 in a horizontal direction, a galvano-mirror 13 for deflecting the light beam deflected by the polygon mirror 12 in a vertical direction, a scanning lens 14 for converging the light beam deflected light beam deflected by the galvano- mirror 13 on the input surface of the spatial modulation element 3 and optical systems 4∼9 for magnifying and projecting the picture displayed on the output surface of the spatial modulation element 3 by reading out the picture.
