PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the accuracy in positioning a DC motor which has an encoder to generate pulses at every specified rotational angle, and is driven with specified voltage, and is stopped by braking power generation from the rotating condition at the point time when it counts the specified number of pulses. SOLUTION: Braking is applied to power generation for the fixed time T0 from the point of time t1 to t2 as the deceleration curve shown by a solid line, and the deceleration and accelerationαat braking of power generation and the deceleration and accelerationα1 at the time of idling are obtained from the speeds V1 and V2 measured before and after it, and the differenceαδS (area hatched with slant lines) between the estimated braking distance at this time and the standard braking distance is obtained. The idling period T1 such as that the area hatched with slant lines S2 =δS1 is obtained, supporting that the braking of power generation is made again for period T1 , with the idling period T1 between, and for the time T1 from the point of time t2 to t3 , it is idled, and again, at the point of time t3 , braking of power generation is performed again to stop it.
