PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an input burden to a user by automatically deciding a designated original word string as a sentence, a word, or a copula and displaying a translated sentence in the case of the sentence and displaying translated words in the case of the word or the copula. SOLUTION: The original word string designated as the translation object is stored in an original word buffer, and the original form, the speech of part, and the input form of each original word of this original word string are stored in an original word string expansion buffer (A11 to A15). The original word string in the original word string buffer and information of each original word in the original word string expansion buffer are compared with each other to decide the original word string as a word, a sentence, or a phrase (A16). When the original word string is a sentence, a translated sentence is obtained by translation processing and is displayed (A17 to A22); and when it is a word or a phrase, translated words are obtained from the original word string expansion buffer and are displayed (A17 to A22). Thus, the translation result corresponding to the designated original word string can be obtained without requiring the word/phrase designating operation at the time of translating the designated original word string. |
