Phosphorus-contg. organo-tin catalysts, obtd. by reacting: (a) 1 mole organic tin cpd(s). of formula (I), R<1>4-nSnXn (I). n = 1, 2 or 3; R<1> = 1-30C alkyl, 5-14C cycloalkyl or 6-14C aryl; X = halogen, OR<1>, OCOR<1>, OH, SR<1>, NR<1>2, NHR<1>, OSiR<1>3 or OSi(OR<1>)3; or cpds. of formula R<1>2SnX', R<1>3SnX'1/2 and/or R<1>SnX'3/2, X' = O or S; with (b) 0.5-4 moles mono-orthophosphate ester(s) and/or ortho-phosphoric acid of formula (II), O=P(OR<2>)3-m(OR<3>)m (II). m = 2 or 3; R<2> = 1-30C alkyl, acyl, 2-30C alkenyl or alkoxyalkyl, 5-14C cycloalkyl, 6-14C aryl, tri-organyl- silyl or di-organyl-alkoxysilyl; R<3> = H and/or metal, pref. alkali or alkaline earth metal; and/or esters of polyphosphoric acid; and (c) 0-2 moles di- and/or tri-orthophosphate esters and/or esters of polyphosphoric acid; (d) 0-5 moles alkoxysilane(s), esp. silicate esters, organyl-trialkoxy-silanes and/or their partial hydrolysis prods.; and (e) opt. other components such as organic solvents, colour pigments and/or organic acids. Also claimed is the process.
