An electric vehicle has the motors driven from converters following a DC link circuit. This intermediate or link circuit, containing at least one network filter or condenser, is fed directly from the trolley wire network or through converters. A series circuit of a braking resistance and a braking controller lies parallel to the network filter or condenser. The brake controller is triggered by a control unit which acts according to defined voltage or current values in the intermediate circuit. The brake controller is also invoked by a second control unit to compensate for disturbance components in the network input current.
