A method for accessing and dispensing liquid from a multi-dose cartridge of the type having a vent/draw system is disclosed. The method employs using a cartridge interface system having a needle for accessing the cartridge. The needle is attached to a piston, which is in turn connected by means of a crank and linkage to a gear motor. This gear motor drives the piston, effecting the motion of the needle. The action of the gear motor is responsive to signals from various sensors, which permit a fully automated method of accessing and dispensing liquid. In the method, the cartridge is accessed when its presence is detected by the cartridge interface method. Liquid is dispensed continuously until the absence of liquid is detected, at which time the cartride is disabled by disengaging the vent/draw system and disconnecting the cartridge interface system from the cartridge. |
