1,055,917. Bearings. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. Oct. 27, 1965, No. 45588/65. Heading F2A. A ball or roller-bearing, or means secured thereto, is located relative to a member by means of a liquid being poured through an access port and into a space between one of the races, or means secured thereto, and the member; said liquid solidifying and retaining the race relative to said member. In an embodiment, an outer race 5 of a ball-bearing is mounted in a sleeve 9 and is restricted in one axial direction by an inwardly-directed flange 15 of the sleeve 9. The latter is received by a bore 10 of an engine structure 1, having an inwardly-directed flange 11 which restricts the bearing in the other axial direction. The solidifying liquid is supplied through a port 16 and enters annular channels 14, 13 formed in the structure 1 and sleeve 9 respectively, so as to form a key 12. The liquid may be synthetic plastics material, may be an adhesive or may be a metal. An inner race 4 may be located relative to a shaft 3 by means of the solidifying liquid. |
