A gas spring (10) with an elongate tubular casing (12) which has an opening (16) at one end and an annular groove (10) around the outer circumference. A piston rod (14) projects from the casing (12) through the opening (16). A mounting sleeve (30) is telescoped over the casing (12) and has exterior threads (46) thereon. The sleeve (30) has an internal annular groove (50) which coincides with the groove (20) in the casing (12) with a passage (54) formed between the sleeve (30) and the casing (12). The sleeve (30) is secured to the casing (12) by a lock ring (56) formed in the passage (54) by injecting a resin into the passage (54) and allowing the injected resin to cool and solidify. Holes (52) are formed through the sleeve (30) which open into the passage (54). Some permit resin to be injected into the passage (54) through the holes (52) and some permit resin to flow from the passage (54) into the holes (52). The resin material in the holes is trimmed to the radially outer tip of the threads leaving excess resin material between some of the threads.
