<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-reliability chip thermistor by forming glass layers on the longitudinal-direction four lateral sides of a prismatic thermistor base substance made by cutting a thin-boardlike thermistor base substance into strips, then cutting it in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction, and providing external electrodes after that on both end surfaces not covered by glass layers. SOLUTION: A thermistor wafer is cut into strips, and the corner line parts stretching in the longitudinal direction of each prismatic thermistor base material 12A obtained are ground. Insulating glass layers 3 are formed on the four lateral surfaces of this prismatic thermistor base substance 12A by using a sputtering apparatus. This prismatic thermistor base material 12A having the glass layers 3 is cut into chips, and external electrodes 2 are provided on both end surfaces. Consequently, it becomes possible to obtain chip thermistors having high mechanical strength and reliability.</p> |
