The boot or shoe consists of a sole, an upper and a liner. An air suction circuit is formed by a suction channel with a one-way valve. It draws in air from the outside and feeds it to the inside and to an aeration and damping chamber (7) which is deformed periodically by the action of walking. The damping chamber is located inside a cavity (6) of corresponding shape and is formed by a hollow cushion (13) of an open-celled foam such as a very lightweight polyurethane foam, and having upper (15) and lower (14) faces and side walls (16). The cushion has an aperture linking it to the suction channel and to a series of transverse channels in the sole with holes at their ends leading to the interior of the boot or shoe.
