The information system uses an onboard satellite navigation receiver (1), receiving signals from a global satellite positioning system (5) for determining the precise geographical position of the vehicle and a radio receiver (2), for receiving traffic hold-up information from a traffic information transmitter (8). A comparator (3) compares the actual position of the vehicle with the cooordinates of the traffic hold-ups, for activating a warning display (4) for the vehicle driver.
