Prepn. of ether (poly)isocyanates (I) from ether (poly)amines (II) comprises reacting (II) with at least the stoichiometric amt. of phosgene or a cpd. that releases COCl2 w.r.t. NH2, in the gas phase at 50-800 degrees C and near or above the b.pt. of (II) at the pressure used. Also claimed is an isomer mixt. (IA) of 2-(2-isocyanatopropoxy)-1-propyl isocyanate, 1,1'-oxydi-2-propyl isocyanate and 2,2'-oxydi-1-propyl isocyanate ('dipropylene glycol diisocyanate' isomer mixt.) obtd. by this method.
