The device proposed for the selective control of the oscillating transverse motion of a yarn (4) includes sinkers (6) which are driven to oscillate and which are fitted with yarn carriers (22a, 22b). In order to be able to control individually a weft yarn (4) which is to be moved transversely, each of the carriers is fitted with an actuator (60) which moves the carrier out of its initial position, in which it cannot pick up a yarn, into a yarn pick-up position. This makes it simple to pick up the yarn and to control its transverse motion.
