A microelectrode arrangement, for the shunt location of electrical potentials or for the electrical stimulation of biological cells, uses multiple microelectrodes (Ml-Mn). Each consists of a contact electrode (Kl-Kn), with which the network of biological cells can be brought into contact, and a connection electrode (Al-An) electrically linked to a meter or similar instrument. Between these is a light-receiving component (P). Some or all of the components may be thin-layer elements. The electrodes are controlled by light from fibre optics. Each has a fibre with a light source and these form the substrate (S), which may be a light diode matrix. Light directed through a fibre to the receiving component at its position in any individual microelectrode activates that electrode. |
