Optoelectronic transceiver

The transceiver device (1) includes a monolithic semiconductor laser emitting and receiving diode (13) and an optical fibre conductor (16). The emitting and receiving diode is integrated in a semiconductor chip (12) with the laser resonator being defined by the pair of chip opposing outer surfaces (14,15). Emitted laser light is fed to the optical fibre conductor which abuts one of the chip outer surfaces (14). The coupling between the optical fibre conductor and the semiconductor laser and reception diode at this surface allows passage of the received light and the required reflection of the laser light. A Bragg grating may also be provided to form a distributed feedback laser with a monitor diode.
