PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To well hold a large quantity of waste ink by a small amt. of an absorbing material in an ink absorbing device for absorbing and holding waste ink generated by the maintenance operation of an ink jet recording head. SOLUTION: A large number of ribs crossing each other in parallel crosses are erected on the bottom surface 3a of a rectangular parallelepiped container 3 opened upwardly and a rectangular parallelepiped absorbing material 7 composed of a porous material such as pulp is mounted on the ribs 5 and the outer periphery of the absorbing material 7 is fitted to the inner wall of the container 3. Waste ink 9 generated by maintenance operation such as suction is gradually absorbed from the upper surface of the absorbing material 7 but the ink 9 becoming impossible to absorb as the absorbing material 7 is saturated is dripped in the space between the bottom surface 3a of the container and the absorbing material. In this state, even if vibration is applied to an apparatus, the ink 9 housed in the space 11 is prevented from flying out of the container 3 by the absorbing material 7. |
