PRODUCTION OF HYDROGENATION CATALYST

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently produce a catalyst for production of >=6C branched hydrocarbon with high selectivity by hydrogenating CO. SOLUTION: Y type zeolite is subjected to ion exchange treatment and alumina removal treatment until at least 60% rate of ion exchange and at least 10% rate of removal of alumina from the insides of crystals to the outsides are attained. A cobalt salt soln. is impregnated into the resultant NH4 type or H type low-alumina Y type zeolite and this zeolite is dried and subjected to reduction treatment with hydrogen to produce the objective hydrogenation catalyst.
