Method of control of odours appearing in motor vehicle air conditioning system

The odour control is provided by a process of de-humidification of the evaporator which is initiated after the engine of the vehicle is stopped. The air circulation fan (1) is operated for a set time interval after the engine has stopped to dry the external walls (8) of the evaporator, reducing the moisture level and so inhibiting growth of micro-organisms which are the source of the odour. The air delivered by the fan may be heated by an electrical resistance heating device (10) to speed drying. Condensate is collected (4) and removed from the evaporator by directing part of the drying air stream over the collection area.
