A cutting roller for use in sitting machines for processing wide film webs, the roller comprising a plurality of annular grooves 6 extending circumferentially with planes at right angles to the axis of rotation 4. The cutting roller 1 being formed by a hollow cylindrical support element 2 made of a fibre compound material, onto the cylindrical surface of which a thin metallic layer 5, preferably of aluminium, is applied, into which the grooves 6 are machined.
