A slide compound miter saw includes a base 18 and a turntable 62 mounted on the base for rotation about a vertical axis. A longitudinally extending support shaft 226 is mounted on the turntable and has a longitudinal bevel axis coplanar with the turntable support surface. The miter saw cutting unit is mounted on the support shaft for longitudinal movement toward and away from the turntable and for rotational movement about the bevel axis relative to the turntable. A ball bearing arrangement is provided between the cutting unit and the support shaft.
