摘要 UK 1,347,209 discloses a sledge, which is propelled by oars provided with groups of teeth. The effectiveness of this method of operation remains quite poor for the simple reason that many teeth are not held fast in the ice or in the snow when the sledge is moving forward. One advantage that might nevertheless be mentioned here is that should the sledge end up in the water when the ice breaks it can be rowed with oars like a boat. The ice sledge according to the present invention is not propelled by oars but by rowing poles specially designed for this purpose. Figure 2. The extreme ends of the rowing poles 5 are provided with an ice-prod and a snow ring 1. So that the prod 1 can be held fast in the ice for a whole rowing stroke, the length of the ice rowing pole 5 must vary during the movement in the manner shown in the figure. The torque generated by the prod 1, which endeavours to twist the rowing pole about the longitudinal axis, is cancelled in that the inner end of the pole 5 is bent upwards by 25-70 degrees and is provided with a handle 2 supported on a bearing. A bent handle 2 of this type is easy on the arm. A spring 7 fixed between the sledge 8 and the rowing pole promotes gripping of the prod 1 in the ice. <IMAGE>
