FIBER TREATING AGENT AND TREATMENT OF FIBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain fiber improving effect by an enzyme and to prevent reduction in strength of the fiber by treating the fiber with a treating agent containing an immobilized enzyme. SOLUTION: Methacrylic acid, divinylbenzene and methyl methacrylate are subjected to emulsion polymerization in a water system to prepare a dispersion of fine particles of a water-insoluble polymer having 0.02-10μm, preferably 0.05-5μm particle diameter. The dispersion is mixed with an enzyme such as cellulase to prepare an immobilized enzyme-containing fiber treating agent. Plural cotton yarns cut into fixed length are bundled, both the ends are tied and the bundled yarns are immersed in methanol over night, dried under reduced pressure and treated with the treating agent.
