PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ferroelectric liquid crystal display device which exhibits good shock resistance, min. value in a voltage-memory pulse width curve and good bistable switching. SOLUTION: This ferroelectric liquid crystal display device has a structure formed by holding a composite consisting of a ferroelectric liquid crystal material and high-polymer material between substrates 9 and 10 having at least electrode films 2a, 2b and oriented films 4a, 4b. The pretilt directions of the ferroelectric liquid crystal molecules at the boundary of both substrates 9 and 10 are the same and the ferroelectric liquid crystal maternal has a chevron layer structure. The bending direction of this chevron structure and the pretilt directions of the ferroelectric liquid crystal molecules at the boundary of both substrates are the same. |
