PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioning apparatus which does not block comfortableness in a room without accumulating chilled air at a lower part in the room even when the chilled air is taken in at an outside air suction port while the air blown off at a diffuser is not heated by a heater. SOLUTION: An air conditioning apparatus is provided with a blower 3 in a body A which has an outside air suction port 12 communicating with outdoors 11, an air circulation port 23 communicating with the inside of a room 21 and a diffuser 22. The suction side 31 of the blower 3 is made to communicate with an outside air suction port 12 and an air circulation port 23 while the blowoff side 34 of the blower 3 is made to communicate with the diffuser 22 and a heating/cooling device 33 is provided on the blowoff side 34 of the blower 3 to heat or cool air blown off at the diffuser 22. In this case, the diffuser 22 is provided with an opening area control means 24 of the diffuser 22 and the opening area control means 24 is provided with a reduction control means 27 to control the opening area of the diffuser 22 reducing it when the heating/cooling device 33 fails to operate.
