PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and accurately evaluate the reproducibility in the thin line part of an image. SOLUTION: This image evaluating device is equipped with a laser focus displacement gauge 2, a movable stage 3 movably scanning the image G on the gauge 2 or an image supporting body 1 in the direction of image width (m) at much smaller pitch (p) than the image width (m) while keeping a relative distance between the gauge 2 and the supporting body 1 constant, and a cross section profile calculating means 4 calculating the cross section profile of the image G based on the measured result on the surface position of the image G corresponding to the respective scanning points of the gauge 2 with the movable scanning of the stage 3; and is provided with a cross section profile plotting means 5 as necessary. Then, an image reproducibility evaluating pattern PT is formed at a part of a test print by an evaluating pattern forming means 6 when a test print mode is set and an image forming condition is automatically adjusted based on the evaluated result on the pattern PT by an image forming condition adjusting means 7. |
