<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the degradation in the contrast of the display image in the environment of a bright ambient by suppressing the reflection on the electrodes of an active matrix type liquid crystal display device for which liquid crystal molecules driven by the electric field of a direction horizontal with the substrate plane and to improve the brightness of the images by increasing the opening rate of pixels. SOLUTION: The linearly polarized light which enters from a substrate 1b side and passes a polarizing plate partly passes a liquid crystal layer and, thereafter, this light is made incident on the electrodes 22, 23 formed of transparent conductors and is transmitted downward as it is through the electrodes, by which the reflected light entering the visual point of an observer is drastically decreased as compared with heretofore. The increase in the luminance at the time of black display is suppressed and the high-contrast images are maintained even if the ambient is bright. The reflectivity is lowered by about 40% as compared to heretofore.</p> |
