PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting element whose color purity is excellent and whose light-emitting efficiency is high and to provide an electron-beam- excited laser whose oscillation threshold input power is small and whose light- emitting efficiency is high by a method wherein electron-hole pairs and light are confined in a very small laser medium. SOLUTION: A light-emitting body 2 in which a light reflecting film 3 has been formed on one face is formed to be island-shaped, and a gap length between islands is set at 1/4 or higher of a wavelength. Alternatively, a light reflecting film is formed on the side face of every island.
