<p>The invention relates to a method of levelling a traffic load of a base station in a cellular radio system, and a cellular radio system. The cellular radio system comprises in each cell at least one base station and a number of subscriber terminals. The base stations measure their own traffic load and transmit a pilot signal the power level of which is measured by the subscriber terminals. The base stations and the subscriber terminals are interconnected by means of their traffic channels. When a base station is heavily loaded, it reduces its coverage area by decreasing the transmit power of the pilot signal or by controlling the pilot signal power measurement of the subscriber terminal.</p> |
