The magnetic recording device has a time code detection block (16) for providing a time code from a play-back signal with a given sampling period, with the successive delivery of the time blocks. A reset position memory (18) stores the time codes in a reset position, with a preceding time code memory (20). A relative time memory (21) supplies the respective time codes to a calculation block (19), also receiving the time codes from the detection block and the reset position memory, which enable the calculation of an actual relative time.
