Prepn. of hydrogen and carbon monoxide gas mixt. comprises: (a) pulverising coal; (b) feeding the pulverised coal into a 1st. reactor zone with an oxidising agent to produce hydrogen and carbon monoxide; (c) feeding natural gas into a 2nd. reactor zone with steam to produce hydrogen and carbon monoxide, together with the pulverised coal and oxidising agent; and (d) releasing the hydrogen-carbon monoxide gas mixt. from the reactor appts. used for carrying out the above process is also claimed. Further claimed is an integrated system.
