The mixing device comprises a blind front wall (6) which is introduced to protect the nozzle (2) at the head of the fuel lance (1). The wall gives protection to the nozzle against thermal loading caused by the backwardly flowing gases. In addition a stream of purging air is led through the guide path (7) to prevent the deposition of a layer of soot and coke.
