Proposed is a method for the automatic use of storage facilities (9) using computer-controlled cross-linked operational steps executed by programme modules. The method calls for at least one storage module (2) and a supply module (3), and preferably also includes an input/output module (4) and a statistics module (5). The modules interact with each other and with their environment. The storage module (2) is used to determine the stock inventory and to release orders (19). The supply module (3) is used to assign articles to a particular type of management and declare orders (19). The input/output module (4) is used to approve, execute and report the acceptance (30) and delivery (39) of goods. If necessary, the input/output module can be divided into an input module (6) and an output module (7). The statistics module (5) is used to collect information from the other modules, calculate relevant parameters from this information and report these parameters to the other modules and to the environment (16).
