In a box skeleton with an outer covering contg. flat multilayer covering elements, the elements are two-layered, the first layer being a support of high strength material and the second layer being a plastics plate which is tightly bonded to the support and which has a smooth outer surface. The support is fitted to the box skeleton and the plastics plate forms the large area smooth outside of the high structural strength outer covering. Pref. the support is a metal sheet and the plastics plate consists of a rigid closed-cell polymer foam contg. PVC or polycarbonate. Also claimed are (i) a process for prodn. of outer coverings for the above box skeleton; (ii) a car box including a box skeleton with an outer covering as described above; and (iii) road and rail vehicle car boxes including a box skeleton with an outer covering as described above. |
