The net (5) can be tensioned elastically inside the load space of a vehicle, and can be fastened at least in the regions of its corners to retaining elements which are fixed to the load space. The dimensions of the net are chosen so that in the tensioned state it extends over the entire breadth and height of the load space. A part (9) of the net is in the form of a pocket (10), and this may extend over one half (9) of the net. The pocket may also have a base in the region of an end edge (15) of the net, while two opposing side edges may have a sturdy side band (12) which is also flexible, and which may especially be made from the same material as seat belt webbing.
