<p>An air bag module (40) has an inflator (42) for generating gas and an air bag (44) deployable upon generation of gas by the inflator (42). The air bag (44) includes an upper portion (50) and a lower portion (54). The module (40) also includes a tether (70) being external to the air bag (44). The tether (70) includes an upper end (72) connected to the upper portion (50) of the air bag (44) and a lower end (74) connected to the lower portion (54) of the air bag (44). The tether (70) is also located adjacent a vehicle occupant (34) when the air bag (44) is deployed. Upon air bag deployment, the occupant (34) engages the tether (70) and the tether (70) pulls the air bag (44) towards the occupant (34).</p> |
