For the protection of the eyes from irritation and diseases of the outer eye caused by ozone and/or UV radiation, the invention calls for the use of an unsaturated constituent containing lipids, fatty acids or esters with an iodine number > 100, or mixtures thereof. A suitable composition is an isotonic, buffered oil-in-water emulsion containing 2 to 50 % by wt. of the unsaturated constituent, 0.1 to 10 % by wt. of phospholipid and 0.01 to 1 % by wt. of preferably non-surface-active thickening agent, in each case relative to the total weight of the emulsion. |
