An exhalation valve for a respiratory mask which may be connected alternatively with a gas supply or a gas filter comprises a casing A haying a perforate cover 12, a valve seat 22 and containing a valve 24, the valve being urged against its seat by its own resilience and by a spring 40 between the cover and an apertured bearing cup 36, there being a control ring 46 screwed to the bearing cup and permitting removal of the cup from the valve for cancelling the loading by the spring 40. The valve is loaded by the spring 40 only when the mask is connected to a gas supply. The screws 44 securing the cup 36 to the control ring 46 are slidable in L-shaped slots 48, one limb of each slot serving to lock the screws so that the cup and spring 40 are held clear of the valve (Figure 3). The valve 24 comprises a diaphragm 32 having a stem 26 which is fixed by arms 30 so that the periphery of the diaphragm is deformed when it bears against the seat 22.</p> |
