<p>Novel thermoplastic, biodegradable polysaccharide-esters(or etheresters) are of formula (I): A = linear polyether chain of formula (E-O)n; E = linear aliphatic or aromatic opt. branched 2-11C chain; n = O or an integer; B=D = maleic acid addn. prod. of formula (II); F = aliphatic, satd. or mono- or poly-unsatd. C framework which opt. has further substits.; and C = H, hydroxy-ethyl, -propyl or butyl, Me, Et, benzyl, dihydroxypropyl, carboxyalkyl, sulphoalkyl or cyanoethyl. Pref. (I) contain 0-6.5 mols. alkyl ether and 0.1-3 mols. maleic acid addn. prod., each per mol. polysaccharide units. Alternatively, per mol. of polysaccharide units, (I) contains 0-6.5 mols. alkyl ether, X mols. maleic acid addn. prod. and Y mols. mono- or di-carboxylic acid, with X and Y = 0.1-2.9 and X+Y =3. The maleic acid addn. prod. gps. B and D are of alkane- or alkenyl-succinic acid gps. with 8-18C aliphatic side chains and opt. further substits. and the opt. other acid gps. present are an acetate or a phthalate.</p> |
