The device contains a number of gymnastic mats (1) which can be vertically suspended from a curtain rail-like track (3) and can be moved horizontally. Different mats (1a-1c) are suspended from different tracks (3a-3c) which are offset wrt. each other so that the mats can be displaced independently and whilst overlapping each other. The mats can be suspended so as to be adjustable in height. They can be suspended via at least two belts (6) of adjustable length, to which the mats are removably attached via snap hooks (7). At least one part of the mats have pressure sensitive switching elements whose actuation triggers audible and/or visible signals.
