Optical detection appts. for obstacles in front of vehicle

This device has been designed to detect obstacles (25) in front of a motor vehicle (21) and in the monitoring sector (23). The vehicle is equipped with a scanner (1) which swivels a focussed beam (8) of laser light pulses round in a horizontal plane (9), along with the direction of a light receiver. There is an evaluating unit (14) which determines the profile of the obstacle from the angle and the transit time of the pulses.
