In a method for operating a combustion engine which is driven by a fuel of conventional type containing an alternative fuel described as alcohol, the alcohol content of which is monitored for the purpose of adjusting the quantity of fuel to be added in each case, the measurement of the content of alcohol in the fuel added serves for pilot control of the quantity of fuel added whilst the fine adjustment of the air ratio is achieved by way of lambda control of known type.
