PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite polyester material improved in rigidity, strengths, heat resistance, toughness, processability and surface appearance by dispersing an organic-modified product (B) of a layered compound having a cation exchange capacity in a thermoplastic polyester (A) in the form of single layers. SOLUTION: A composite polyester material comprising 100 pts.wt. component A and 0.5-10 pts.wt. component B, wherein component B has an average gravity center distance of 80Åor above and a content of aggregates of below 0.5 pt.wt. per 100 pts.wt. component A is provided. Component A is a high-molecular- weight thermoplastic resin (e.g. polybutylene terephthalate) having ester linkages in the main chain. Component B is the one prepared by ion-exchanging the interlaminar metallic cations of a layered compound for organic cations. This is produced by ion-exchanging the metallic ions of a layered compound (e.g. montmorillonite) for organic cations (e.g. 12-aminododecanoate ions), adding the ion-exchanged product to a polyester-forming monomers, applying force (e.g. ultrasonic waves) of increasing the interlaminar distance to sufficiently introduce the monomers among the layers and polymerizing the monomers.
